Court challenges filed against a mayoral, council candidate

Civil complaints and summons have been filed against two candidates running for Bisbee city council, challenging their nomination petitions.

According to court documents obtained by The Bisbee Observer, election challenges have been filed in Cochise County Superior Court against mayoral candidate Gretchen Bonaduce and Ward I council candidate Shay Sanders, requesting that both be prohibited from being on the July Primary ballot.

According to the complaint filed against Bonaduce by Anna Cline, who is a city councilmember, several signatures on Bonaduce’s nomination petitions were not filled out correctly, are incomplete, not registered voters, live outside the city limits or have signed other petitions……read full story (online subscribers only)

County P&Z makes decision on Camp Riff Master plan and rezoning

Plans to turn the old Turquoise Valley Golf Course property into Camp Riff are one step closer to reality for developer Joseph Lewis after the Cochise County Planning and Zoning Commission narrowly approved his request to recommend his master development plan and rezoning to the Cochise County Board of Superiors for approval.

The deciding vote came at the April 10 Cochise County Planning and Zoning meeting from P&Z chair Kim DePew, who said she had a lot of reservations, but “felt the property owner could not be held hostage any longer” and voted in favor of Lewis’s application request for his master development plan and rezoning. The approval will now allow Lewis’s request for the master plan and zoning change to move forward to the Cochise County Board of Supervisors for approval to change the 175-acre property from RU-4 (rural district with one dwelling per 4 acres) and R-36 (residential district within dwelling per 36,000 square feet) to a planned development district.

The recommendation was granted but not before staff suggested conditions for the planned use of the property which will include a music pavilion, RV park, dry camping, restaurant, bar, walking paths as well as other amenities….read full story (online subscribers only)
