Frequently Asked Questions

Pet euthanasia may be considered when a pet is suffering from a terminal illness, uncontrollable or untreatable condition or injury and is no longer able to live a comfortable, content and pain-free life. Quality of life is a key factor in the decision-making process. This can be difficult for pet parents to evaluate on their own – in these cases a quality-of-life assessment consultation with a veterinarian is recommended. Your veterinarian will provide guidance based on prognosis, available treatment options, individual needs and circumstances of the pet. Check out our dog euthanasia and cat euthanasia pages for more information on saying goodbye to your beloved pet.

The most humane way to euthanize a pet involves the use of a medication that is professionally administered by injection, which is designed to send the pet into a very deep sleep, like undergoing general anaesthesia and then passing away peacefully and painlessly. When possible, it is given intravenously. For our service, we insert and secure a cannula to ensure it enters the bloodstream as intended and so there are no adverse reactions from the medication leaking outside the vessel.

We recommend and always use sedation (+ pain relief). It is generally given as an injection under the skin prior to the euthanasia injection. This helps to reduce stress, pain, anxiety, and fear, so it is considered kinder and more humane to include sedation prior to euthanasia. Pet euthanasia at home is also considered kinder, it allows your beloved pet to be in a comfortable, familiar place.

Kittens and puppies should start getting vaccinated when they are around 6-8 weeks old. The vaccinations involve multiple shots given at certain times – the exact schedule may vary depending on the animal’s age, health status, and the vaccines used. Following the recommended vaccination schedule is crucial to keep the animal safe from dangerous diseases. See our vaccination page for more details.
The 5-in-1 dog vaccine, also referred to as C5, is a reliable method to safeguard your dog from prevalent and severe dog diseases. By introducing weakened or dead disease-causing organisms into the dog’s body, the vaccine stimulates the development of immunity against them. The vaccine offers protection against Parvovirus, Distemper virus, Canine Adenovirus vaccines, and infectious agents that lead to kennel cough.
