Founded August 26, 1989 from a University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Doctor Who club, we are a Milwaukee science fiction club that supports primarily the British television series Doctor Who. We feature a real printed Doctor Who newsletter The Relative Times, regular meetings and annual events. Here's your chance to connect and share your love for anything cool on TV and the movies.
In the summer of 1989, a UW-Milwaukee based student club was losing members mostly due to graduation and leaving Milwaukee. A large number of members were not UWM students. It was difficult to publish our newsletter in time. While we had a regular free meeting space, we wanted to grow and be free to take control of newsletter publication process, which is central to club communication and growth.
And so on August 26, a meeting of people gathered at the Bradford Arms. We gave our club a name, initial leaders and founding member start up funds. We even had a very special guest. Scroll down to Features and see if you recognize someone in a black and white photo. Our first public service activity was Milwaukee Public Television on air pledge drives. It was a way to thank the station for providing us with Doctor Who and promote our club. We attended conventions as a group. Plus we hosted two public events, one at the old Wisconsin Hotel. The first newsletter articles were typed on typewriters or on very low budget PCs with dot matrix printers. As is done now, newsletter was assembled manually.

Through the TV series "Wilderness Years" from 1989 through 2004, the club sustained fandom with regular events, fanzines, a fan video production, a Monty Python night, two murder mysteries, local vendor tours, convention support and public TV pledge drives. We enjoyed the social and creative aspects of being in a club as much as our love of Doctor Who.
That's what fan clubs do. They help to keep what we love in production. Our favorite TV shows and movies cannot be without our support. Some fans like to do more than watch TV. We like to get out and participate in events and support the community. As an MTL member, you get a voice in what you want it to be. In a month after joining, you can be one of 5 leadership positions. Being in a well-run club is healthy and can lead to opportunities as members learn skills and network with other people. These skills and being in a club are good for job seeking. There are opportunities for leadership, publication, writing, editing, event management, art, crafts, trades and more. All of that counts when you seek a job and you need references and experiences to offer. Don't ever dismiss or ignore private organizations that you can be a part of and even make it better with you taking charge.

In 2009 our club celebrated 20 years with much accomplished and experienced. We also started to feel losses of members who found other directions or passed away. We dearly miss Marti, Rudy, Ross and Lloyd. We are calling on people like you to take up the mantle of private club management and growth. Are you talented with crafts like Marti, excellent with meeting space hospitality like Rudy, can take charge as Ross did as President or can do club business as Lloyd did with our financial accounts auditing?
You can help us by joining us and wandering with us at our events and attending our meetings when you can online or at our locations. Send us your creative works, help us make an excellent newsletter and support us at our events.

Not being able to have our regular meetings in 2020 diminished our club and left us challenged to continue and sustain ourselves. Clubs need members who regularly attend meetings and events. We need comfortable and safe meeting spaces for low budget non-profit organizations.
We welcome input from all of our members to help us continue our travels through space and time with the Doctor. If you love the Doctor and other cool TV shows and movies and don't want to enjoy it alone, then your next step is to do what you can to help the Milwaukee Time Lords. We've had past members donate to us a video projector, a TV, meeting spaces and their crafts for sale. If you have anything to help MTL, please use contact form to let us know.

We meet at various locations throughout the year. Please check our events page for meeting details and how you can help us as a member. If you cannot attend in person there are alternative virtual experiences on Facebook in the form of "watch a long" events where you view selected videos at home at the exact same time as others and leave comments as you view. You are welcome to offer a space for public meetings. Please visit our Facebook group, Meeting Spaces, if you would like to host a meeting.
We publish and print 8 issues of The Relative TImes per year. Our issues feature news, reviews, cartoons, puzzles, articles and more. Each issue includes our events calendar and officer contact information. Members are invited to submit their content to our newsletter editor. If you want to receive your newsletter in the mail, please join us with a by mail membership application form.
We have a history of member participation in both local and long distant events. It is fun to be like the Doctor and invade any public venue as a Time Lord. We publish upcoming events and how to contact in our newletter. Offline or email only members will need to contact by email or phone to be added to event list. For additional events that require more detailed planning such as movie nights, please follow us on Facebook and ask to join our Wandering Time Lord Facebook group. It is linked to our page as a private space.
