About Me

Hi Everyone! I’m Alexis Jones, a 26 yrs old professional player & coach located in Lakewood Ranch, FL. I've played tennis since the age of 4 and competing since age 6. Over my career, I’ve competed internationally, trained at several top tennis academies in the USA, South America, and Europe, and know first hand the habits and skills needed to perform at a high level. Since I'm not only a coach but a player as well, I can more easily guide my students through the different stages of development, as I've been exactly where they are at some point in my life. In my opinion, the fundamentals are everything! Good fundamentals will keep you calm and comfortable in any situation you might face as a player. When teaching, I like to focus on proper technique, ball placement, increasing stamina, and keeping a positive mindset, which carries over into every part of the game, Off and on the court. The goals and dreams of my students and players are my #1 priority and I’ve been able to take kids, teens, young and mature adults from A to Z, surpassing their own expectations, and showing them what they’re truly capable of! This is what I love most about our sport! No matter where you are in your tennis journey, regardless of age, athletic ability, or skill level, with the right training and consistent practice, any and everyone can learn to play and play well! So whether you’re picking up a racquet for the first time, looking to improve your technique, or a competitive player wanting to take your game to the next level, book a session today and let's start training! I can’t wait to work with you!

Real Training. Real Results.

All of my drills & training methods have been learned and adapted from my firsthand experience as a junior & pro player. Contrary to popular belief, tennis has less to do with brute force or speed and more to do with control, discipline, and finesse, which becomes more apparent the longer you play. I truly believe everything starts with the mind and body and, the more “in-sync” you get the two of them, the faster you’ll progress in the sport. The better player is NEVER the one with the most speed or power but the one with the best coordination, reflexes, stamina, emotional control, or strategy. All of which can be trained, developed and improved, regardless of age, athletic ability, or skill level. Everything else is icing on the cake. With this in mind, I typically start my players with some form of body mechanics or fitness training (if able) to improve balance, body awareness, strength, and hand/eye coordination. This creates a good foundation for optimizing stroke technique, ball timing, and footwork before shifting our focus to increasing consistency and accuracy. For tournament & league players, we also work on point-development, patterns, playing “high/low percentage tennis”, proper decision making, and execution while nervous, tired, or under pressure. These skills, combined and practiced regularly, give a player exactly what they need to trust themselves and their game. Allowing them to play freely, think clearly, and win more matches.

"Alexis works with my 2 daughters, who are 11 and 15, and has fixed so much in both their games it's incredible! They both compete in tournaments and were really struggling. My eldest daughter had no confidence in her serve and it was so inconsistent she would double fault at least twice a game. I couldn't get my youngest to move her feet to save her life lol and she had such a hard time rallying because she was always too late to the ball. Now, they look so much more comfortable and prepared when they play and my eldest double faults 1-2x a match vs every game. If you’re looking for a professional coach who’s friendly but tough on your kids, she’s your girl!"

"I was a junior player but hadn't picked up a racquet in almost 12yrs when I decided to start playing again. I figured a coach would help me get the rust off faster, so I started my search. I had a few lessons with a few different coaches but felt their exercises weren’t very unique or constructive and even after several lessons, I was no closer to getting my “feel” or rhythm back, which was disappointing. I stumbled upon Alexis and can tell you, the difference is night and day! She’s super sweet, knowledgeable, and picks up on the things other coaches overlook. Within a few sessions, I was rallying from the baseline and actually making serves, which I thought would have taken longer. Now we have 2 sessions a week and I love feeling like a tennis player again.”

"I’d been playing tennis off and on for about a year, mostly playing around with friends, nothing too serious. One of them recommended I get some lessons so I could at least know the rules and hopefully make it more competitive when we play together. (Be careful what you wish for!) I started taking weekly lessons with Alexis about 2 months ago and dare I say, I’m now the best player in my friend group. Her critics are spot-on and make an immediate difference! She’s high energy, passionate about tennis, and always lets you know what you’re doing right, not just what you’re doing wrong. Really thorough coach and a great player, HIGHLY RECOMMEND!”

FAQ's & Other Important Info

Booking Info: You can easily book appointments by contacting me via txt @ 941-357-7533, sending an email to lwrtennisacademy@gmail.com, or using the “Book A Lesson or Class” form near the bottom of the page for fastest response. If you're reaching out via phone or email please give me a detailed message with your name, age, skill level, preferred times/dates, and the type of lesson or class you'd like to participate in and I'll get back to you with more info within 24hrs! *usually much sooner 🙂 Payment info: For the convenience of everyone, credit/debit cards are the only form of payment I accept and I require a card on file for the booking and payment of all sessions. When we decide on the perfect date/time for your 1st session, I’ll send you a link via SMS or email (from my secure payment processor, Stripe) to capture your preferred credit/debit card information for the payment of your 1st lesson or class. Stripe then saves and encrypts your card info in their system (much like any other payment processor such as paypal, square, etc.), so it may be charged on an as-needed basis for the payment of our future or upcoming sessions. So there’s no need to worry about paying every time or sending money for your sessions. It also allows me to properly enforce the cancellation policy listed below. Please note that bookings/time slots aren’t confirmed or secured until payment has been received and/or a card is on file, especially for the first booking. Cancellation & Rescheduling Policy: All lessons and classes must be reserved with payment and/or card on file, at the time of scheduling, to secure your booking/time slot, as mentioned above. I currently have a strict 24hr cancellation and rescheduling policy in place. Should you need to cancel or reschedule your lesson or class spot, please do so prior to 24hrs in advance of your scheduled session. Any cancellations or rescheduling requests received, for any reason, less than 24hrs in advance, will be charged for the full amount of the scheduled lesson or class spot and will not be eligible for a refund. Tennis gear & what to wear to your session: As far as clothing, any kind of active wear that's light and easy to move in is perfectly fine but you can also find tennis specific clothing at many online or at brick and mortar sports stores. However, one of the biggest differences in tennis apparel ,from other sports, is footwear. For your safety, under no circumstances should you ever play tennis in any kind of open-toe shoe, barefoot shoe, sandal, flip flop, etc.. Ideally, you should wear a smooth bottom “hard court” tennis shoes (not to be confused with fashionable sneakers, gym, or running shoes that are commonly referred to as “tennis shoes”). For those that are new to tennis and haven’t been able to shop for tennis specific shoes as yet, the best alternatives are a flat sole gym or running shoe with minimal external “cushion”, ridges, or patterns. The bottom of the shoe should be very smooth and this is critically important for safety reasons. Most of the time, tennis requires you to move in a way that is more of a pivot-and-shuffle than a stride-and-run. Hard courts are essentially concrete and therefore, wearing improper shoes can cause you to trip, fall, or sprain an ankle quite easily and this is especially true for children. Tennis also requires you to make small, choppy, stutter steps and split-second stop/start movements, which will be very challenging or dangerous without proper footwear. As for racquets, children under the age of 8 typically do best with “junior racquets” (a smaller more manageable sized racquet) and older children and adults can use varying types and sizes of standard or “adult racquets”. Both of these racquet types are widely available at Target, Walmart, Dicks Sporting Goods, Amazon, and other online or brick and mortar sports stores. Finally, children and adults should bring plenty of water, a towel, hat/visor, and sunscreen, should it be needed. Location, Weather, & Court Availability: Currently all sessions are held at the Lakewood Ranch Park tennis courts @ 5350 Lakewood Ranch Blvd, Bradenton, FL 34211. These are located behind/across from the pickleball courts, which are in the vicinity. If you see the pickleball courts, you're in the right place. Parking is conveniently located in between the pickleball & tennis courts. When the parking lot is full, people normally park on the grass or across the street, which has never been a problem. The cancellation or rescheduling of lessons or classes due to bad weather or court unavailability are rare but will happen from time-to-time. In this case, I’ll typically get in touch with everyone on the schedule for that affected day or time frame and alert you of any current or expected weather and/or court issues, allowing us to plan or reschedule our session accordingly. If you have any further questions regarding availability, current rates, booking, or want to put together a game plan, feel free to contact me via phone call, text, or email.
