A great many people experience pain in and around their feet or lower legs sooner or later in their lives.

It’s one of the most complicated and hardworking regions of your body. It has 26 bones and 33 little joints, all held together by a network of soft tissue comprised of muscles, ligaments, tendons, nerves, veins and blood vessels.

Most of cases of foot or lower leg pain are short term and are caused by soft tissue wounds, for example, injuries, strains or sprains.

These should heal slowly with simple self-care measures. Despite the fact that some could take a couple of months to fully recover, you likely won’t have to look for treatment from a medical professional.

However, some pain can have no specific reason or may not improve significantly with self-care.

Pain that is getting worse, doesn’t improve, or endures longer than a couple of months could be because of structural changes in the foot or lower leg, or a hidden condition.

There can be a few causes for long term pain in and around the feet or lower legs, for example,

  • Inaccurately Fitted footwear.
  • Joint inflammation.
  • Connective tissue diseases.
  • Decreased blood circulation.
  • Nerve damage.

Some foot pain can turn out to be in excess of a short-term problem. In the event that you can’t treat the pain yourself or you have a condition that could affect the joints or soft tissue, it might require further examination.

You should address to your primary care physician or a footcare expert if:

  • Your pain doesn’t improve in the initial days.
  • Your pain is worse.
  • It is causing issues following fourteen days of self-care
  • You have wounds that are not healing.
  • Your skin has changed tone – particularly if it’s turned dull blue or dark.
  • Your foot has changed shape or is swollen.
  • You have a high temperature or feel hot and shivery.
  • It is red, warm, or swollen – as you may have an infection.
  • The problem keeps coming or keeps going longer than three months.
  • You have an inflammatory condition, for example, rheumatoid joint pain or scleroderma.
  • You have diabetes.
  • You are taking steroids, biologics or different medications that influence your immune system.
  • Your primary care physician might need to refer you to a foot care specialist, for example, a podiatrist for a diagnosis and treatment.

You can visit DFW Foot and Ankle Care about your foot or ankle pain. Dr. Zubeen Mistry is one of the most trusted podiatrists in Plano,

ACHILLES TENDINOPATHY

Achilles tendinopathy is brought about by damage or irritation in the ligament that runs from the calf in the lower leg, through the back of the lower leg deep down in the heel.

The basic symptoms are:

  • Pain in the Achilles ligament which increases after movement.
  • Trouble moving the foot here and there.
  • A painful sensation in the area.
  • Swelling, redness or warmth around the ligament.
  • A lump on the ligament.

It’s normally brought about by a tear or over-utilization of the Achilles ligament. It can affect anybody doing sports including lots of running. Individuals with high or low arches can likewise be inclined to this issue, in light of the fact that these foot shapes put abnormal strain on the ligament.

PLANTAR FASCIITIS

Plantar fasciitis most commonly causes pain in the middle and inner side of the heel.

It’s brought about by damage to the thick band of tissue, called the plantar fascia, which runs from the impact point, underneath the arch of the foot to the base of the toes.

Normally, the plantar fascia supports the arch and enables the foot to work appropriately, spreading your weight equally through your foot, so you can walk, run, or remain without trouble.

However, plantar fasciitis can make it difficult and painful to use your foot appropriately, especially soon after you have been resting. The pain regularly improves when your foot is dynamic, for instance during exercise, yet normally returns not long after you stop.

Plantar fasciitis can be brought about by:

  • Being on your feet for a really long time.
  • Practicing on hard surfaces.
  • Overstretching the underside of your foot.
  • High or low arches.
  • Tightness in the calf.

Our Patient Testimonials

Dr. Mistry and his staff are incredible! I started seeing Dr. Mistry due to foot pain that would not go away with rest and elevation. After visiting several times with Dr. Mistry we determined that surgery was the best way to fix my unstable metatarsal. He truly is the best if you need foot surgery! I never felt rushed at my appointments before or after surgery. He answered every question I had and gave answers I understood instead of “doctor talk”. I highly recommend Dr. Mistry if you have any kind of foot problem.
