Art Anderson is a senior scientist, pathologist and ethicist. Presently, his most important responsibility is the protection of the rights and welfare of human volunteer subjects through the Office of Human Use and Ethics.

In recognition of 28 years of assuring ethical research involving humans, Wagner College awarded Art the degree of Doctor of Philosophy honoris causa on 16 May 2003

The heroism of Operation Whitecoat volunteers was included in "Dangerous Missions: Human Guinea Pigs" a program that aired on the History Channel in August 2000.
